Xuan Shen Bagua Zhang
Bagua Zhang, formerly known as Ba Pan Zhang, is a martial art based on spiral strength and inner development. "Circular Stepping" is prominent, and "internal work with Qi" is the focus.
It involves twisting and spiraling movements while maintaining constant movement and fluid directional changes, combined with walking and standing meditation and dynamic stepping. Over time, very soft yet powerful movements emerge that reflect pure harmony and beauty to the viewer.
However, the beginning focuses on very basic movements and repetition. Achieving more beautiful, faster, and more explosive movements depends on the student's perseverance and consistency in repeating these fundamentals. It also relates to self-healing, strengthening internal energy flow, and the resulting immune strength.
It is suitable for all age groups and, because it requires no prior experience in other sports or arts, it can be considered an excellent introductory art to the inner arts.
Its history dates back to Daoist practices (and the practice of firewalking in shamanic rituals), where priests performed rituals in circles around the nine palaces (Pillars). These rituals have different foundations and reasons for the shifting of energies through the eight trigrams, and include functions such as expelling evil or negative energies. The renowned founder of today's Ba Gua Zhang incorporated sophisticated martial arts methods into these practices. It is the INTELLIGENT POWER that forms Ba Gua Zhang.
