BJJ

BRAZILIAN JIUJITSU

Mitsuyo Maeda, a great Jiu-Jitsu master, taught his art to Carlos Gracie when he settled in Brazil. The Gracie family developed the art over the years and introduced it to the world with the Gracie Challenge. Following this challenge, they fought fighters from many different styles, quickly and easily defeating their downed opponents. At the time, no one knew the importance of ground fighting or how to fight on the ground. In fact, the Gracies made history with the saying, "The ground is a sea, I'm a shark in it, and none of you can swim."

BJJ relies primarily on technique and timing, not strength. This allows an athlete to defeat even opponents much heavier and stronger than themselves. The athlete develops strategies by anticipating their opponent's next move or their response to their own. It requires the athlete to be both physically and mentally active. In the world, this sport is called "Chess of human body", that is, the chess game played with the human body.

"Empty your mind, become formless. Formless, like water."
